Kevin Feige talks about why Marvel post-credit scenes are important
Kevin Feige reveals why Marvel includes those post-credit scenes in every movie, and the answer is an important one.
If you’re a Marvel fan, you know all about those end credit scenes. It’s a running joke on the internet that you can spot someone who isn’t a Marvel fan by if they leave the theater as soon as the credits start rolling. While sometimes these post-credits scenes are silly or fun, often many of them show important moments between characters or hint at what’s to come in future films.
While we wait for Avengers 4, basically anything anyone involved in these movies says is being scrutinized and analyzed for clues and hints. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, recently accepted an award at the 2018 Britannia Awards where he won the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.
While he didn’t give away any new information about future Marvel films or projects, he did touch on those iconic post-credit scenes that Marvel has come to be so well-known for.
He touched on how the studio has been doing these scenes from the start and how important they are to fans and those who make the films. Per We Got This Covered: “Movies bring people together, but they also bring people together behind the scenes. At Marvel Studios, we’ve been putting a scene after the end credits in all of our films since the very beginning. The fans love it, it’s a tease of something to come.”
But, the real reason he thinks these post-credit scenes are so important has less to do with the content of the scenes and more to do with the cast and crew of these movies.
“But the real bonus is that the audience is going to sit there and look at all the names of the hundreds of thousands of people who work so hard to bring these movies to life. That really inspired me as a kid, to see all those names and I hope it inspires people today.”
Honestly, this isn’t the answer that we expected, but it is a great one. When it comes to big blockbuster movies, it’s usually the main actors and maybe the directors that people know about, but there are so many people working hard to make these movies happen. By putting those end credit scenes in the films, audiences have a reason to sit through the credits and see all those names and all the work that goes on behind the camera.
Feige also talked about how right away with the first Iron Man movie Marvel decided to focus on this idea of there being a large, connected universe of heroes.
"It occurred to us [while making Iron Man], ‘Well, we don’t have X-Men, we don’t have Fantastic Four, we don’t have Spider-Man, but we have everything else. Even though everything else hadn’t been turned into a big film before, or had the name recognition among non-comic-book readers that others ones did, we had the opportunity to start putting certain heroes in other heroes’ movies, which hadn’t been done before. It’s a bonus of what’s to come."
They definitely made the right move by including those post-credit scenes, and fans will always love this special aspect of the MCU. We are glad that Marvel wants to inspire future creators and encourage people to appreciate everyone involved in these movies, too.
