5 things we’re looking forward to seeing in Spies in Disguise
This upcoming movie Spies in Disguise looks like a hit based on the recently released trailer. With a stellar cast and an interesting premise, we’re already a fan.
It’s no secret that we here at Culturess are big fans of Tom Holland, and even Will Smith. So when we heard that both actors were going to be the main characters in an upcoming animated spy movie called Spies in Disguise, you can only imagine our excitement. It would appear that we aren’t the only ones based on fans’ reactions to the newly released trailer. 20th Century Fox revealed that the movie will be released in 2019 and will be directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane.
The movie follows super-spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and gadget-inventor Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) who partner up when danger presents itself. While their methods and personalities are complete opposites, both must learn how to work with each other to save the world when a small mishap forces Lance to become dependent on Walter.
The trailer shows some great scenes to look forward to (watch below if you haven’t seen it yet), and we’ve gathered five things that we can’t wait to see in the movie when 2019 comes around.
Animated Tom Holland
Tom Holland. Handsome, beautiful, cute, charismatic… dare we go on? His character, Walter, appears to closely resemble the Spider-Man actor in the looks department, but what about in personality? Walter seems like he’ll be a socially-awkward-yet-intelligent character who is just what the world needs most. His gadgets will probably far surpass that of a simple spy watch and glasses and will prove that even if you don’t have physical hand-to-hand combat skills, technology can be the next best thing. It appears that Holland is sticking with his American accent skills for the tech genius, and we can’t wait to see more of his voice acting skills, which will hopefully lead to more roles in animation in the future.
Lance Sterling as a pigeon
We’ve gotten a taste of Will Smith’s voice acting skills previously in his role as Oscar in Shark Tale. Now, it looks like we’ll be getting a glimpse of him not only as a super smooth, badass spy, but as a pigeon as well? The plot of the movie dictates that Lance is faced with a difficult obstacle and needs to rely on Walter’s help. Though it’s not yet certain, we may be seeing more of Lance as a pigeon than a human because of Walter’s invention. Will Walter be unable to turn Lance back into a human? Is his invention stolen? Who knows! We’re just excited to see not only the hilarity that comes with the whole situation, but how Lance and Walter grow to trust each other enough to help one another.
The comedic aspect
Obviously, a lot of animated movies have comedic relief to make kids laugh, and the same looks like it will be true of this movie. I mean, a human turning into a pigeon has got to be a pretty good source of comedic relief. Lance’s dialogue in the scene when he’s turned into a pigeon certainly elicited a laugh from me, and I can only hope that I’ll love more of his hilarious lines and perhaps Walter’s as well.
Action scenes
The action scenes look like they’ll be pretty awesome on Lance’s part. Hand-to-hand combat, jumping from buildings and helicopters, and driving high-tech cars — Lance Sterling is your typical James Bond character with a twist. It appears that fans won’t be disappointed with the action and skills that Will Smith’s character will display, and we can only assume that Walter will need to become well-acquainted with these skills as well in order to be of any help to Lance as he tries to save the world.
Awesome supporting cast members
Tom and Will aren’t the only actors to look forward to in this movie. Ben Mendelsohn, Karen Gillan, Rashida Jones, DJ Khaled, and Masi Oka will also be making an appearance playing various characters in relation to our secret agent heroes. Ben Mendelsohn and Rashida Jones will play Rocky and Penelope Beckett, whom we can most likely assume are related to Walter. As for the other actors, it’s unclear at the moment who exactly they will be, but it’s only a matter of time before we get another trailer and hopefully some more info on what other characters we have to look forward to in this movie.
