5 things we need to see in the Falcon-Winter Soldier series

Fans have wanted to see more of Bucky and Falcon for a long time, and now it looks like Disney is finally giving us what we want.

Fans have been more and more excited about the new Disney streaming service that is being put together ever since we learned Disney plans on releasing Marvel limited series. So far, we’ve heard about a Scarlet Witch series and a Loki one. And then on Tuesday night, Variety broke the news that a limited series is being developed that would star Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier).

According to Variety, the series already has a writer, too. Malcolm Spellman has been slated to write the series. Spellman is known for his work as a writer and co-executive producers on Empire. This is exciting news as it makes the potential show the first one of its kind to have a writer in place.

Fans are, not surprisingly, freaking out and really excited about this series. While Marvel hasn’t commented on the news yet, it looks like chances are good that this limited series will be made. And, if it does, fans will be sure to watch it. Many fans have enjoyed the dynamic and interactions between Bucky and Sam in the MCU, even if these interactions have been brief.

There are many directions the series could take, and, fans already have a lot of ideas about what they would like to see happen. So we put together a list of five of the main things we think this show needs to focus on.

A deeper dive into these two characters and their complexities and backstories

Both Sam and Bucky are side-characters in the MCU. We all know that Marvel has a lot of characters in many of these movies. Just look at Infinity War. This means there often isn’t much time focused on Bucky and Sam, even though they are fan favorites. They both have been through significant traumatic events in their lives, and it is completely necessary that this series takes the time to explore these stories. With a series focused on them, there would be ample time to do so, and we think these two deserve it.

Explore the idea of whether or not one of them will be Captain America

There is comic book precedent for both of these characters taking over the mantle of Captain America at different times. Of course, this idea would depend on if the story is set after Avengers 4 and also on the events of that movie. If Marvel plans on having one of them take up the shield, this is the perfect way to dive into that storyline. If they don’t go that route, this series gives them the chance to get the two of them more involved, unique identities and stories moving forward.

Cameos of other MCU favorites

It’s hard to know how possible it would be for other stars of the MCU to show up in these series. But, if possible, we would love to see familiar faces. Black Widow makes sense seeing as she spent all that time with Falcon and Steve Rogers when they were all on the run. So presumably, she knows Sam really well. Of course, we all want Steve to be in this series with the two of them, but we are pretty sure that won’t happen. Oh well, we can always dream.

Address the ending of the Steve Rogers storyline

This also depends on which time period the series is set in and the ending of Avengers 4. If Steve Rogers does die in the movie, heaven forbid, this series would be a great way to explore the aftermath of that. Both Bucky and Sam are important people in Steve’s life, and they care deeply about him. It would be great to see Marvel take the time to explore these kinds of traumatic losses and how they impact people.

Development of their friendship

So far in the MCU, Sam and Bucky have had a bit of an antagonistic relationship. They work together as part of team Cap, but they have some low-key jealousies over which one of them is Steve Roger’s main man. So, we would love to see them work together and see how they come to have each other’s backs over time. We’re sure there will be a lot of banter and one-liners, but we would like to see some depth added to that relationship, too.
