The middle tier

Although both of these couples scored multiple 9s on their performances this week, the top three this week elevated beyond just doing great routines, easily hit the theme of Halloween week, and also just had spellbinding dances.

That said, let’s talk these two.

5. DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold: 26

This salsa had a professional male dancer on either side of DeMarcus, and it did show the difference between how loose and easy they were with the dance compared to his dancing, which was a bit more uptight. Salsa doesn’t quite need the same kind of frame as ballroom. As the routine went on, he definitely got more into it, but there’s only about 90 seconds to make an impression in the first place. At least he has killer lifts, which the judges noted.

“You guys were very clear,” Carrie Ann said, before knocking him on his hand work. However, both Bruno and Len said he kept pace with the pros, and they were the ones to give him two 9s.

4. Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten: 27

DeMarcus and Lindsay might be the rulers of lifts, but Alexis and Alan are clearly coming for that crown after this week’s jazz routine. Even with all the pros on the floor with her, she absolutely dominated the dance (even though her costume seemed more suited to a holiday routine). Alan’s really showing his skill with choreography, with Len loving the content.

Whether or not they actually end up together, they’re a great partnership on the dance floor. She can’t make the top tier after a second straight week in jeopardy, though.
