Dancing with the Stars week 6 power rankings: Scaring up perfection
Not one, but two Dancing with the Stars couples grabbed 30s in this Halloween week, but more interestingly, there’s a much clearer divide.
Dancing with the Stars definitely played up the theme of Halloween during this week’s episode. In some respects, it worked. Tom Bergeron had plenty of puns on hand, although some of the special effects really didn’t surprise.
Moreover, this year’s Halloween Night opening number didn’t quite seem to have the spooky verve that previous Dancing with the Stars efforts had. Sure, Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli shone in their spooky costumes, but the new take on “Purple People Eater” really didn’t bring the heat.
Fortunately, the dances from the couples, in some respects, made up for the lackluster beginning. It’s time to get some rankings down.
Eliminated: Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber: 24
Although there was a buffer, Mary Lou and Sasha didn’t dance long after Evanna and Keo also performed a tango. However, this tango almost went too far into the gimmicky department, with the idea being that Mary Lou was an evil teacher who made her student, Sasha, tango with her? There seemed to be something missing, with a mismatch somewhere between the music, choreography, and theme.
“The dance got a little away from you,” Carrie Ann said, but Len did say that there was “a lot of tango content.”
Does it feel right to see this couple go while others remain in the competition? Definitely not. It also hurts to see her go out on this note, when it wasn’t necessarily her best dance.
