Castlevania’s second season offered new characters and stories, plus plenty of questions for season 3.

Warning: Spoilers for Castlevania‘s second season await below.

Castlevania continued the story of Dracula’s war on humanity for the murder of his wife, Lisa, in season 2. Compared to its first season, Castlevania was less focused on guts and gore, and instead turned its evil eye on relationships and politics that could impact Dracula’s war. (Granted, guts and gore still happened because, well, vampires.)

This season also offered plenty of fresh backstory to how the war began. In the first episode alone, we see how and why Lisa was captured. Following her death, Dracula not only recruits vampires to take over Wallachia, but humans as well. Hector and Isaac, both slighted by their own species, have no remorse in joining Dracula’s war council. They offer unique talents as Devil Forgemasters, able to regenerate dead beings back to life, often to create terrifying new monsters. Interestingly, it is the humans who seem to be the most loyal to Dracula, as newcomer vampires Godbrand and Camilla often question Dracula’s plans and ability to lead.

As Dracula’s army begins to break down from within, the heroes of the series create stronger bonds in season 2. Monster hunter Trevor Belmont, magic crafter Sypha Belnades, and son of Dracula, dhampir Alucard make their way to the Belmont estate where answers to defeating Dracula possibly lie within the Belmont family’s impressive underground library.

The season 2 finale leaves plenty of room for both terrifying and inspiring new tales to come forth. The death of Dracula (or supposed death, we’ll get into that) doesn’t mean the end of war between humans and vampires. With Netflix’s Castlevania series based on the third game of the franchise, Dracula’s Curse, there’s plenty the show can still draw from. However, the show has been successful amongst fans due to its unique take on the characters and story — you don’t necessarily need to have played any of the games to enjoy Castlevania.

With season 2 offering a nice mix of new characters and plot points, we were also left with plenty of questions.  Let’s take a look at what fans can expect from Castlevania season 3.
