Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Rebecca is growing and learning

Rebecca Bunch still has a lot to learn on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but this week, she began to make some changes for herself that are for the better.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is setting us up for a journey with Rebecca that we can’t begin to imagine. While the season started with her struggling to find herself while she was in jail, Rebecca has been trying to get situated in her “freedom.”

This week found us back at the law firm while Rebecca tried to see if she still wanted to be a lawyer. The bar association had given her the okay to study law again but that didn’t mean that Rebecca Bunch wanted to go back into a career that she never really wanted in the first place.

As she points out throughout the episode, it has always been her mother’s dream, not hers. So when she is forced back to work, she finishes one of her big cases and decides that she doesn’t want to do it anymore, which is a great message for the show to be spreading.

Sure, we all pick our careers at a time in our lives when we are either susceptible to our parent’s wishes or we chose something that seems easy. For Rebecca, she did what her mother wanted despite very clearly loving theater and performing.

So when it came time during this week’s episode for her to decide, she changed her mind and decided to own the pretzel shop in the lobby of the building where the law firm is. It was nice to see Rebecca truly happy for a change. She was willing to open up, creating new flavors and having fun without worrying about every aspect of her life.

Most of Rebecca’s actions come from the fact that she never really got to chose her own path. Her mother had everything laid out for her and when Rebecca was reminded of her brief fling with Josh Chan, she suddenly wanted nothing more than to escape the life she’d always known.

Now that she is growing and learning how to be her own person, Rebecca is taking the steps she needs to be happier. And right now, that happiness takes the form of her pretzel shop. Maybe Nathaniel will have a place there with her, as he realized at the end of the episode that he loved her but if not, that’s okay. Rebecca is being who she needs to be in order to be happy and that’s all we wanted for her since the beginning of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

How long is Rebecca going to enjoy the pretzel shop? We’ll have to see but, at of the end of the episode, Rebecca seems to be the happiest we’ve seen in a while. She is having fun, doing what she loves in this moment, and she is finally doing something good for herself.

Hopefully, she keeps it up!
