“All hail Mildred, Queen of the Feast”

Episode: “Chapter Seven: Feast of Feasts”

This is an episode in which there is a murder by mine collapse, but it barely registers because there’s also a ritual sacrifice of one of the witches in the coven, in which she slits her own throat, is eaten raw by other members of the coven, and is named “Queen of the Feast” for it. This is, in fact, the entire point of the feast. For all that some of Sabrina’s misgivings about the Church of Night seem vaguely like a 16-year-old who’s convinced she’s right about everything, her questions about the Feast of Feasts are totally valid.

Of course, Mildred slits her throat on camera. Moreover, she’s eaten on camera, although there are people in the shot so that we don’t see her body being torn to pieces.

But hey, what’s a little human sacrifice and cannibalism between coven members, right?

Episode: “Chapter Eight: The Burial”

After having someone slit her own throat in the previous episode, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina writers probably looked at each other and asked how they could make it somehow even worse in the next few episodes.

The answer makes sense in story, by virtue of requiring a life to be sacrificed in exchanged to bring someone else back, but the visuals include Sabrina slitting one of the Weird Sisters’ throats, and then the episode also includes said Weird Sister digging out of her own grave!

But we have more to say about Agatha’s death and return when we talk about the ninth episode momentarily.
