Riverdale: We still have lots of questions about Veronica’s speakeasy

There is a speakeasy in Riverdale now thanks to Veronica. And while Archie may not have been there to cheer her on, her father made an appearance.

A lot happened in the third episode of Riverdale season 3. We got to see Archie being forced into service to the Warden’s version of Fight Club, Jughead and Betty continued their detective work on what is happening around town, and of course Veronica opened her underground speakeasy, Bonne Nuit.

And while each of these things is major, and we could totally fall down the rabbit hole that is what’s happening in juvenile detention, we have a lot of questions about Veronica’s speakeasy. On the one hand, we knew Veronica had a master plan for Pop’s. On the other hand, when did she even have the time to build this underground club?

Can we just point out that we have barely heard Veronica talk about the speakeasy coming together? And then all of a sudden when it seems as if debt is going to drag her down, Betty brings up the speakeasy — and it’s already done. How did Betty not even know what was happening?

Clearly Veronica has been doing things behind the scenes we didn’t know about before. And while that makes sense, the fact that the speakeasy was such a major part of the episode’s story line makes us wonder why it hasn’t been discussed much before now, even in passing.

We understand that the Gargoyle King story and Archie’s prison sentence are taking up a major part of the Riverdale story, but La Bonne Nuit is set to be an important part of Veronica’s life. We feel like at the very least we could have seen more of how this came together and even how she was able to make it happen as a teenager in high school.

And on top of that, Veronica is dealing with not only Archie being in prison because of her father, but also her father apparently deciding it’s time for a shakedown (talk about a relationship gone bad). Both Penny Peabody and Sheriff Minetta show up, the former asking for protection and the later almost discovering some jingle jangle that was sent to the speakeasy without Veronica’s knowledge. Basically Veronica had a lot on her plate trying to get Bonne Nuit off the ground, and yet we knew almost nothing about it before this episode.

So not only did we not get to see Veronica bring her underground club together, but we don’t know how she was able to do it. And based on Betty’s discussion early on, it seems like we weren’t the only ones left out of the loop.

But honestly, we think this speakeasy is going to be a very interesting setting moving forward. Just like Pop’s has become the go-to place for the fierce foursome to meet and discuss the happenings around town, we think La Bonne Nuit will be the place to go for the other teens as well. Plus, with Reggie acting as security for the speakeasy, Kevin being the man about the place, and Josie taking on the role of house entertainer, we can’t imagine this not being the place to be for the teenagers.

Now that Veronica has given Riverdale the speakeasy, we can’t wait to see how the teens utilize it to deal with the many secrets the town and their parents are hiding. Veronica is proving that she is a force to be reckoned with, and we are excited to see how she takes on her own father moving forward.
