Crazy Ex-Girlfriend review: A surprise career change and a cute little wedding!

Every week, we’re reminded of what makes Crazy Ex-Girlfriend so special. And this time, it was a surprise wedding that had us on the verge of tears.

In the cutest twists of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fates, Heather and Hector get married! In this week’s episode, Rebecca fought with herself about where she wanted to go career wise and, at the same time, Heather was dealing with Hector’s health issue and thought the easiest solution would be to marry him so that he could use her health insurance.

Now that Rebecca Bunch has found herself a free woman who has nothing to hide from those around her, she doesn’t want to return to the life her mother laid out for her. The bar association approves her return to practicing law, but that doesn’t really fit with how Rebecca is feeling. So, when she’s trying to hide from her responsibilities, she gets a job at the pretzel shop that Jim opens up in the lobby of their building.

After she returns to the firm for one case, Rebecca realizes that it isn’t her true passion and looks into opening up the pretzel shop on her own and does, with Paula’s approval of course.

Meanwhile, Heather is dealing with Hector’s foot fungus and realizes that the smartest solution to his health insurance problem would be just to have him marry her. Surprisingly though, Heather gets emotional at their civil union and so does Hector. Heather, though, doesn’t want a real wedding, shrugging off Hector’s desire for one until Valencia and Beth show Heather how much he wants to see Heather walking down the aisle.

To surprise him, Heather works with Valencia, Beth, and all of their friends to set up a ceremony for Hector when he normally goes to play basketball with Father Brah. As Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has the ability to do, the moment ends up being quite tender, showing the true relationship that these two share with one another.

Rebecca, who was asked to speak at the wedding, arranges a bible verse to fit with her intended message and, in doing so, shows an unintentional light to Nathaniel. While being silent throughout the entire episode, Nathaniel was trying his hardest not to show his feelings about Rebecca. So when she begins talking about the love that Heather and Hector share, he realizes that he is in love with Rebecca Bunch.

If this is how the rest of the series is going to pan out, count me in. It is actually becoming a show about Rebecca’s growth as a person as well as showing her separation from the dream her mother laid out for her. Everyone is beginning to take care of their own mental health and the relationships in their lives. Ultimately, it’s promoting a healthy way for us to look at our lives and how we can improve upon them.

If Rebecca Bunch can change for the better, so can we all.
