James Phelps discusses his upcoming performance, The Greater Game

Harry Potter star James Phelps, a.k.a Fred Weasley, discusses his up and coming stage performance, The Greater Game. A World War I drama.

James Phelps, who played the wonderful Fred Weasley in Harry Potter, has been busy between his on screen and on stage work since his time in the Wizarding World franchise came to an end. His most recent work is the stage production, The Greater Game, and Phelps has been discussing what is to come.

Based on the novel, They Took The Lead, by author Stephen Jenkins. The Greater Game is a true story about 42 men who enlisted during the Great War. The production focuses on two friends, Richard MacFadden and William Jonas, who met each other in Newcastle when they were only 7.

The story follows their journey as they move to London to play Football (Soccer) before enlisting all as one to fight in the Battle Of The Somme. A story involving friendship, bravery, and tragedy, The Greater Game has been described as “Touching and Emotional.”

James Phelps will star alongside, Michael Greco from Eastenders, Scott Kyle from Outlander, Paul Marlon from Essex Boys Retribution, and Jack Harding from Worth A Flutter.

Phelps’ gave a recent interview about his role in The Greater Game and had the following to say about the production itself. He was accompanied by his co-star, Victoria Gibson:

"The first thing we’re doing is remembering. There’s nothing political in the show, whether it’s good, bad, or in between. These are the facts.It’s the first piece of work I’ve done where my mates down at the pub were like, ‘Oh, I’ll watch that.’"

Phelps’ also explained how things were going with rehearsals, so close to the opening night.

"When you film, normally, you just rehearse the morning of the shoot, and then you shoot whatever you’ve rehearsed that morning. Whereas this, it’s been quite an intense rehearsal period."
