The new Outlaw King trailer shows Chris Pine fiercely fighting for Scotland’s independence in the upcoming Netflix film about Robert the Bruce.

Chris Pine has proven himself alongside Wonder Woman, as Star Trek‘s Captain Kirk, and even as Anne Hathaway’s heartthrob back in the days of The Princess Diaries. Now, this November, he’s arming himself with a sword and a Scottish brogue and going to war for Scottish independence.

Outlaw King, premiering Nov. 9 on Netflix, is the true story of Robert the Bruce, who fought against England for Scotland’s independence against England back in the 14th century. A story largely untold in America, this historical legend is coming to life on screen, played by a bearded Chris Pine, and it looks to be a sword-clashing, chest-baring, blood-spilling spectacular.

A new trailer just released shows Pine leading disheveled Scottish rebels who crown him king. This move gets him declared an outlaw, and he is forced to go to war against the English to defend his claim and Scotland’s right to rule themselves. The new trailer shows storms of fiery arrows and violent horseback battles reminiscent of the most epic Lord of the Rings war scenes as Pine plays Bruce, passionate and angry defending his home.

As battle heavy as the film looks to be, the new trailer also reveals that the movie will tug on viewer’s heartstrings. Robert the Bruce appears to be not only a mighty warrior, but also a loyal family man, who makes his young wife promise to “do whatever [she] must” if he “dies tomorrow.” And from the trailer alone, it’s unclear how his story ends.

“Is it true?” a young boy asks him, “You’re the King of Scots?”

Kneeling in order to be on eye level with the boy, the Outlaw King responds by saying: “Go tell all your friends we’re going to win our country back.” But that battle does not look to be an easy one. According to producer Gillian Barrie, speaking to Entertainment Weekly Bruce’s fight to win his country took him “to hell and back.”

And if the new trailer is any indicator, “to hell and back” is right. This is one battle for independence you won’t want to miss:
