The Kingpin’s Comeback
A hero is only as good as his villain, and Marvel knows when it’s got a compelling, multi-faceted, truly terrifying baddie on their hands. Wilson Fisk gave Daredevil a run for his money in the show’s first season, managing to outsmart the good guys and transform a larger-than-life monster from the comics into a layered, often empathetic crime lord who seems all too real.
Fisk is back in a big way for season 3, and fans quickly learn his time spent pouting behind bars is all a ruse. In fact, in the show’s later episodes, Fisk reveals his master plan — to control the FBI by informing on his competition and blackmailing the agents charged with his safety while he enjoys a cushy new penthouse pad and all the comforts it affords.
There’s a moment in season 3, once Fisk has well and truly gotten his old life back, where D’Onofrio dons the character’s iconic white suit for the first time. It’s a pretty powerful image, one that works because D’Onofrio has been putting in work when it comes to the character’s arc since episode 1 of the whole searies. We’re not saying you’ll be rooting for Fisk, but watching D’Onofrio chew up every scene he’s in, striking fear into his underlings, manipulating the FBI, and launching a truly ingenious attack on his mortal enemy? That’s what we in the business call damn good TV.
