The Good Place: Will anything help save our humans?

Treading uncharted waters, The Good Place plans to take us where we didn’t know we’d go. The question is: Will anything be able to save our humans?

The Good Place likes to hinder all expectations. In a good way, of course. This latest episode had Michael revealing the truth to our four humans and watching them deal with it.

It should come as no surprise that Chidi is the one who gives up, having studied philosophy all his life. Eleanor tries to revert back to her old ways, but finds Chidi’s study really did make her a better person. Tahani realizes her money has always been a weight and decides to give it all away. And Jason is just Jason, as oblivious and loving as ever.

Like always, it’s Eleanor who brings Chidi back into the fold and offers the six of them one last gasp attempt: Try to help others get into the Good Place. They’re eternally doomed, but why not try to fork the system and help others get in?

As Michael explained, now that they know about the Good Place, they can’t rack up any more points. It’s the whole just desserts thing the Judge mentioned back in the season 2 finale that started this whole season 3 predicament.

No matter how much good they do on Earth, their points will not budge. Unless… unless they somehow racked up enough points before seeing the space door, but we still don’t even know if the Good Place really does exist.

Eleanor’s plan to keep trying and to help others may still be futile, but it’s not a bad plan. If the Judge is still watching this whole experiment (and she is very bored), this could be the perfect way to get them into the Good Place.

Or, at the very least, read Michael and Janet’s manifesto, see the results of the study, and reevaluate how the afterlife system is set up. Because it is a pretty forked-up thing. After thousands of years, it might need a little restructuring.

And that sounds like something Team Cockroach, Team Souls, Team Autobots might just do. They seem to screw up everything they touch in some way or another. With insider information from Michael and Janet, they may just be able to hack this thing.

They’ve almost done it before. Many, many times. How many times did they thwart Michael’s plans in the Bad Place? Dealing with an eternal judge who watches a lot of NCIS might end up being a piece of cake for them.

I don’t know what I expected for this season, but it certainly wasn’t everyone stuck on Earth the whole time. And it still might not be, knowing The Good Place and its usual hijinxes. There may only be a few more episodes on Earth before the Judge whisks them back to her chambers through the magic keys.
