The Fly (1986)

Why is it that Goldblum is so good at making remake roles his own? We don’t know, but it does make for some fun watching for Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as The Fly, where he plays the scientist whose experiment leads him to turn into a fly-human hybrid. Although it’s definitely nasty at points — maybe don’t watch while you’re eating — to look at Goldblum’s career is to note that this, long before the other two roles listed on this page, really helped put him on the map and won him a Saturn Award.

You can find it on Hulu or for rental on Amazon.

Thor: Ragnarok (2015)

It is a shame that the above scene did not make it in its entirety into Thor: Ragnarok, because it is possibly funnier than most of the funny moments of that film. Look, we all know who Goldblum’s character is: the Grandmaster, boss of Sakaar and its fighting pits, alien weirdo with a blue stripe on his chin, and basically Jeff Goldblum’s chance to walk around in a robe and seriously comfortable sandals and have weird, possibly sexual tension with Tom Hiddleston.

Find it on Netflix.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Okay, you could watch The Lost World: Jurassic Park for even more Dr. Ian Malcolm, but the original Jurassic Park has our birthday boy in leather, not wearing a shirt for part of it, and delivering almost every line you actually remember from the movie 25 years after its initial release. We’re not saying you shouldn’t watch both, but if you have to pick one, then Jurassic Park is the way to go.

Also, he’s one of the smart characters who realizes resurrecting dinosaurs is a bad idea even early on. That helps.

Both films, like Thor: Ragnarok, are on Netflix. (Here’s Jurassic Park; here’s The Lost World.)
