Riverdale brings all the adults together in one room, and it’s about time
Riverdale is diving deep into the darkness in season 3. And with two dead students, Archie in jail, and a mess of other problems, it’s time for the adults to step in (finally).
The second episode of Riverdale season 3 gave us a lot to dissect and appreciate thanks to the scenes of Archie in prison and trying to make a jailhouse football game a thing, and of course Betty and Jughead running into the Gargoyle King in the woods. But while all of this is worthy of discussion, the thing we loved was finally seeing the parents step up as a unit.
Toward the end of the episode, we got a scene in the mayor’s office which sees all of our favorite parents gathered together (minus Archie’s mom). And while they certainly didn’t reveal enough information to tell us what they know, it’s clear they know something.
The Gargoyle King and these deaths are not a mystery for the parents of Riverdale. Based on their less-than-revealing conversation, it seems that they know what is happening in their town and with their children. And not just that, but they may even have dealt with this problem themselves at one point.
In fact, knowing that there is a flashback episode in our near future, it has us thinking this is the perfect setup for that story. Not only will we get to see the parents as high school students (played by their children of course), but we may learn exactly what they know about this Gargoyle King mystery.
We love seeing FP, Fred, and Tom together in one room (we have seen it multiple times, including in the first episode), but having all of the parents together is even better. We want to see these adults interact with each other. They all have a history, just like their children, and that means drama and intrigue.
As Riverdale fans, we are not just watching for Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead (even if they are the main draw). We want to see more of FP and Alice or FP and Fred. We want to see what happened between Fred and Hermione. And finally getting a scene with all of them in one room having to deal with their past is a fan dream.
Of course, now we have to wait and see if this meeting of the adults happens again. We can only hope that this is not the last time we see these parents stepping up. Maybe we will get more scenes featuring the Riverdale parents. We can’t wait to see how the Gargoyle King mystery ties into the parents’ own backstory.

And while it is only the second episode of the season, we can’t help feeling like we haven’t been given enough of the adults anyway. With so much of the focus being on jailhouse Archie and super sleuths Betty and Jughead, we haven’t had nearly enough opportunities to see characters like FP, Tom, Fred, or Hermione. Plus, even in the brief scenes we have seen them in, it hasn’t felt like they have been given enough material to play with just yet.
Our hope is that not only leading up to the flashback episode will we see more of the adults, but following the episode as well. Not only because we are going to learn about who the parents were when they were their kids’ age, but also due to their knowledge of the Gargoyle King.
Hopefully, this group meeting is setting the stage for more than just the flashback episode, but also more of the adults in general. Even Hiram Lodge has been sadly lacking in the first two episodes of this season, which is a shame considering he is definitely one of our favorite bad guys.
What did you think of the latest episode? Were you as intrigued as we were by the parents all meeting in the mayor’s office for a discussion of their own secrets? Was there another scene that caught your attention more than this one? Tell us what you thought in the comments.
