Charmed preview: Our magical sisters are unsure who they can trust
By Evie Taylor
In the wake of discovering their powers, the Charmed sisters struggle to stay calm in what appears to be an episode filled with jump scares and screams.
The second episode of the Charmed reboot, titled “Let This Mother Out”, will follow sisters Mel, Maggie and Macy as they continue to come to terms with their newly revealed destiny of vanquishing evil using their powers as witches. Following the cliff-hanger last week where the girls’ Ouija board divulged a warning from their mother, “Don’t trust Harry,” the sisters will be rightly concerned this week.
Harry appeared in the pilot episode as the sister’s Whitelighter, a witch’s advisor, and is seemingly sweet and loyal. He offers great knowledge and gives the girls an explanation for their emerging magical abilities. However, after the sisters felt an urge to contact their mother in the afterlife, the episode concluded with the ominous caution from the other side to stay away from the Whitelighter. Suddenly, Harry’s helpful attitude and clean and proper appearance seem all too creepy and mysterious.
Although, Harry may not be the only character to watch out for. The preview for the second episode suggests the sisters will agree to investigate and identify who their allies are. This will involve a lot of terrified gasps and screams from the girls as they attempt to adjust to their new lives in the supernatural world.

As well as being on guard for oncoming threats from those potentially close to them, Mel, Maggie and Macy must also maintain the crafting and training of their new abilities. In the pilot episode, Macy was shown to have the most control over her power to move things with her mind. This was due to her intelligence, and the preview suggests youngest sister, Maggie, will be growing a bit jealous — “Okay, serious power envy right now.”
Whilst Mel and Macy have “active” powers, meaning they can affect their physical surroundings, Maggie can read people’s thoughts which is a more passive and empathetic quality. Will the sister’s turn on each other because they all have different capabilities?
The pilot episode revealed that Mel, who has the ability to freeze time, utilizes her power the best when she is calm. Will her strong-willed, stubborn character make her training frustrating? The sisters may start to feel anxious if they all develop different levels of control and advancement to their powers. It looks like conflict might not just come from evil spirits this season; but that the sisters themselves may create disputes.
The next episode of Charmed airs this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
