Is there a possibility that J.K. Rowling could write for Doctor Who?

Doctor Who lead writer Chris Chibnall may have a very magical writer come aboard.

Fans of Doctor Who are excited to see how the series plays out now that they finally have their first female doctor. The new season of Doctor Who starring Jodie Whittaker already has high ratings that are breaking records, with 8.2 million having tuned in to watch the premiere episode.

While this is pretty impressive, the number of viewers would be sure to spike if the series was able to have J.K. Rowling write an episode.

During New York Comic Con, Chibnall confirmed to reporters at a press roundtable that the Harry Potter author had spoken in the past with showrunner Russell T. Davies about working with him on an episode. While those plans were never worked out, the series hasn’t given up hope on bringing Rowling into the writer’s room.

Chibnall expressed at NYCC his interest in bringing Rowling onto the project, telling journalists at New York Comic Con that, “If J.K. Rowling wants to have anything to do with Doctor Who, please give her my phone number.”

He also added that, “I think she is one of our greatest living writers.” Clearly, he is a big fan of Rowling and her work, and he’s not the only one. Harry Potter has been a beloved book series for millions of people over the years, and Chibnall is a big fan of the book series himself.

“I think Harry Potter is an absolute transcendent piece of work and continues to be with the theatre play and with Fantastic Beasts. JK Rowling is a genius and if she ever even wants to see what we do on Doctor Who, you tell her from me, the doors are open.”

Fans of sci-fi and fantasy would likely be really excited to see a beloved author like Rowling work on a beloved series like Doctor Who.

While Rowling hasn’t said whether or not she is interested in writing for the series, it’s a fun idea to think about. And, who knows, maybe it could happen in the future?
