The Good Place likes to keep things confined to just our four humans, Michael, and Janet. So does that mean we’ve seen the last of Simone?
The Good Place spent its first few episodes getting our four humans together and keeping them in their little group. It also established how much Michael and Janet care about them and need them to succeed.
And now it’s going to blow all of that up like it does multiple times every season. Everyone saw the door back to the Judge’s chambers. And they want to know what it is.
But by everyone, I mean Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason. Simone had already left the party, which might mean we won’t see her again anytime soon. That feels like it could be a bit of a mistake.
Simone has only been in the show for these first few episodes of season 3, but in those three episodes, she’s become such a great presence. I know we’re supposed to root for Eleanor/Chidi, but how happy Simone makes Chidi and how happy Eleanor is to see it makes it feel okay. She’s a soulmate-level companion for our nervous ethics professor — and she makes him a better person.
Besides that, she’s become such a good friend to Eleanor. In this last episode, she brushed off all of Eleanor’s normal bullshirt responses and made her both eat a cupcake in a group setting and open up about her meltdown.
I get that this show is built around those four humans and everyone else is just bystanders, but Simone feels like she’s earned at least a recurring role. She can dish it back to Eleanor and holds Chidi in a high regard.
She fits in pretty perfectly with our Team Cockroach.
Or… there’s always The Good Place’s way of doing things and she’s actually an agent of Shawn. Maybe Trevor was just a distraction so Michael wouldn’t notice Simone blending in perfectly. We know that for it to work, Chidi and Eleanor don’t necessarily have to wind up together.
But it sure seems convenient that in this reboot of their lives, Chidi finds his soulmate and keeps him and Eleanor apart. I mean, Eleanor doesn’t get her one-on-one time with Chidi like in the Bad Place studies. And we’ve seen that Eleanor’s not a fan of it either. But she respects them as friends and won’t do anything.
Now that they might know the truth about what’s going on (what with seeing the door to Judge Gen’s chambers), things may change. And with Simone not there… man, it just feels too convenient. Maybe I’ve convinced myself that she’s actually a Bad Place demon…
Who the fork even knows with this show?
So I do hope we see more of her in some regard before the season’s over. Maybe Michael finds a way to reboot everything without erasing their memories. Or maybe they find a better way to “start over.”
No matter what, I feel like Simone will come back into the picture somehow.
