Here’s what the future could look like for Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel

Brie Larson is reported to have signed on for several Marvel movies. What does this mean for the future of Captain Marvel in the MCU?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in a transitional period. With the contracts of some of the main Avengers expiring, there is no room for new heroes to take their place. While Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. might not be returning to a Marvel film anytime soon, although who can really say, there is some good news. As Marvel looks to continue the franchise with new faces and heroes to carry on the torch, Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, will probably play a large role in this.

Marvel has supposedly already locked Larson into a contract for several movies. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel and Brie Larson will be working together for a long time, and next year’s Captain Marvel will be the first of a seven-movie deal.

Also, the report states that Larson will be making around $5 million for playing Captain Marvel in her solo film which comes out in March. But, even though The Hollywood Reporter says this is the case, Brie Larson herself posted to Twitter to say that this is not accurate.

She says that this isn’t true, but she hasn’t clarified the actual details of her contract with Marvel. So, she might still be signed on to play multiple movies, and, at the very least will appear in two MCU films.

Since we also know that Larson will be in Avengers 4 next year, that’s two of the potentially seven movies down just in 2019.  It’s pretty safe to assume that Captain Marvel will get two more of her own movies. This would be in line with what other main Avengers characters like Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man got. It would make sense for Captain Marvel to have a trilogy of her own.

While the amount of movies she’ll appear in isn’t completely confirmed, Captain Marvel appearing in non-solo movies seems more than plausible. This leaves only three movies left. Most likely, they will be some sort of Avengers or group movie. Marvel is likely going to assemble another team to lead the way, and Captain Marvel could be the leader — although T’Challa could also take that role of this new set of heroes. Other heroes in this next phase could include Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man.

It’s petty unclear at this point what the team of Marvel superheroes will look like after Avengers 4, but it’s practically a given that Captain Marvel will play a big part in the continuation of the MCU. We won’t really know for sure what happens to the original Avengers until we see Avengers 4. At that point, it is likely that Marvel will reveal more information about the next stage of their plans. Until then, we will all have to hang tight.
