Does Disney want Lady Gaga to play Ursula in The Little Mermaid?
Though we don’t have anything more than rumors at this point, we can still imagine what the upcoming Disney remake will be like with Gaga at the front.
With so many live-action remakes of our favorite Disney movies coming up, it’s easy to become attached to any information that comes out in regards to its cast members (whether it’s a rumor or confirmed by Disney reps themselves). And our latest casting rumor is for the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid, where the “Mother Monster” herself, Lady Gaga, could be eyed for a role by Disney.
According to The DisInsider, rumor has it that the A Star is Born actress is at the top of their list to play Ursula, the villain of the story — and honestly, we’re 100 percent here for it. After witnessing her performances in American Horror Story: Hotel and the recently released A Star is Born, it’s safe to say that she would be the perfect choice for the dramatic and cunning character.
Zendaya was also part of the casting rumor mill in the anticipated film to play the star of the film, Ariel. Again, we agree with many other people in thinking that she would be an amazing choice after witnessing her performance in The Greatest Showman. She has a beautiful voice and would be an amazing mermaid, not only bringing diversity to the role, but also a strong and lovable girl-power attitude.
As for the rest of the front-runners of the show, it looks like there is a possibility that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will compose the music for the film, incorporating both old and new songs. Additionally, Rob Marshall (director of Mary Poppins Returns) is set to direct the film collaborating with screenwriter Jane Goldman.
If the rumors turn out to be just rumors in the end, and we don’t get to see our beloved Gaga in the spotlight once again, perhaps there is hope for a future role as a certain someone in 101 Dalmations? (We all know Gaga could give Glenn Close a run for her money!)
