MCU fans are disappointed after Mark Ruffalo’s title reveal turns out to be a trick, and the Avengers 4 title is still a secret.
Fans of Marvel all know that the MCU uses their actors to “leak” information. While there are definitely times when actors on the show have leaked information on accident, Marvel is now using this as a marketing strategy. They are especially using actors like Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo for these marketing leaks since they have been known to let secrets slip in the past.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Mark Ruffalo “revealed” the Avengers 4 title.
A few hours before the interview aired, Ruffalo sent out a tweet asking Fallon to take his spoiler clip out of the show.
The Russo Brothers, directors of Avengers 4, responded to Ruffalo’s tweet saying, “you’re fired.”
Fans were hyped up, wondering if Marvel was going to use Ruffalo to actually reveal the title, and they weren’t too pleased when they released they had been messed with a little.
In the actual interview, Jimmy Fallon asks, “I don’t want to get you in trouble with the studio, or Marvel, but maybe, could you even just the title?”
Then Ruffalo replies: “Alright, I think I can probably tell you that. I think it’s already out there.”
As Ruffalo “reveals” the title, the show bleeps out what he says. Of course, this was clearly all planned as some sort of marketing scheme, and he was never actually going to reveal the title on the show.
Overall, fans aren’t super happy about the tweets from Ruffalo and the Russos making them think they really were going to get that title reveal. While we know that Marvel sometimes likes to mess with fans, this can get a little frustrating at times when fans feel like they are being jerked around.
What did you make of the fakeout? Are you annoyed by the reveal, or did you find it funny?
