Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale could see a crossover

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale could potentially see a crossover happen, according to showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa during an NYCC panel.

During New York Comic Con’s Netflix and Chills panel, the cast of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina took the stage alongside showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, in order to talk about their new series. And while the focus was on this new version of Sabrina’s story (based on the comics of the same name), one question that popped up had to do with Archie Andrews.

A question was asked as to whether Sabrina Spellman and Andrews would ever meet on-screen, since Aguirre-Sacasa helped to develop Riverdale for The CW, and there is precedent in the comics for a meet up. And it turns out, for fans who want this to happen, there may be hope according to the showrunner.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously revealed that his plan for the end of Riverdale‘s first season was to see the arrival of Sabrina, which would have changed the genre of the show for season 2. Of course that never happened, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was picked up by Netflix to series, and it looked like a crossover was off the table.

Now it sounds like Aguirre-Sacasa is still hopeful that a crossover could happen, as he explained that he is a fan of both towns and characters. However, to answer the question, the showrunner said that, “I love when comic book characters cross over, so it’s a dream. Right now, we’re focused on getting Sabrina out there and making sure Riverdale is as good as it can be. So, I’m hopeful!”

And while the showrunner has hope, for some of us we want to wait and see how Chilling Adventures of Sabrina does first before we decide if that is a good idea. Based on the fact that the new take on Sabrina is much more of a horror series than the one many of us grew up with, we want to see the first season before we make up our minds about bringing Archie and Sabrina together on-screen.

Riverdale might have its moments of unique story lines, but they have yet to really take the show into a truly supernatural direction. And with the series seemingly still rooted in a contemporary setting of sorts, we can’t imagine how they would make the magic of Sabrina work with the reality of Riverdale and its characters. Of course, there is plenty of darkness within Archie’s world, so we can see how Sabrina might fit in well.
