Wonder Woman of the Week: Dr. Christine Blasey Ford

Our Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for her strength and speaking her truth.

This is always a hard topic to write about and speak about, but it’s always important. Sexual assault is ubiquitous, and most women (and many others) know the pain that comes along with living in a culture that so easily lets men off the hook for this kind of behavior.

Our Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for her courage and bravery speaking up about her assault at the hands of Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh. While Ford is not the only brave woman to speak up about these topics, as we also acknowledge testimony of women like Anita Hill, we want to acknowledge Ford for what is undoubtedly an important moment in American politics.

On September 27, Ford gave her Senate testimony about her sexual assault allegation. Many women know what it’s like to be in her position, to have to open up their wounds and express the pain of what happened to them yet again to even be considered to be telling the truth. It’s a sad fact that so often it feels like the victim is put on trial more than the person who did the crime.

In her testimony, Ford spoke about the assault that happened when she was in high school. She explained how she was “one hundred percent” sure that Kavanaugh was responsible. It’s unfortunate that she has to so publicly go into these details, and we admire her willingness to do so.

Hearing the dialogue surrounding this has been difficult for many, and we respect the bravery and strength of so many people like Ford.
