Where are our favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters now?

Kristine Sutherland – Joyce

Her place in the Buffy-verse: Kristine Sutherland played Buffy’s long-suffering mother, Joyce. She perfected the whole hand-writing, pearl-clutching approach to TV parenting, and was often powerless to prevent Buffy from doing anything she didn’t want her to.

As powerless as the character was over the course of the show, one of the most stylistically (and narratively) important episodes revolved around her and her death. In the season five episode, “The Body,” Buffy finds her mother’s lifeless body on the couch and tries to revive her. What ensues is the most beautiful and poignant three minute shot without cuts and no score. It’s very powerful stuff.

Her post-Buffy career: Sutherland did a few guest spots on TV before she landed a recurring role on the daytime soap opera One Life To Live as Dean Makenzie. She lent her voice to the Grand Theft Auto V cast in 2013, and had a tiny spot in the Fox thriller The Following.

Where is she now? After Buffy, she went back to school to pursue a career in photography. Her most recent projects include a part in the indie film, Before/During/After due out in late 2018.
