Has Fantastic Beasts merchandise given away Newt Scamander’s Patronus?

J.K. Rowling won’t tell us what Newt Scamander’s Patronus is due to spoilers. However, the Fantastic Beasts merchandise may have given it away.

One of the questions we all had when we learned about the Fantastic Beasts movies was whether we’d ever see Newt Scamander use his Patronus. The spell is used against the dementors and is extremely powerful magic, but is also one of the most beautiful and insightful spells ever in the Harry Potter universe.

Considering Newt’s love for animals, there are so many that could become his Patronus and it makes us more interested in it. J.K. Rowling refuses to say what it is because it would be a “big spoiler” for the future movies but it looks like the Fantastic Beasts merchandise may have given the game away.

If you don’t want the spoilers, then you’ll want to look away now. However, these are just theories and speculations. We don’t know if this is the truth, so technically not a spoiler.

Could this be Newt Scamander’s Patronus

The Fantastic Beasts merchandise gives us two instances of the same animal. In the poster, there’s a silhouette of Newt’s head with some whispy lights in a glow reminiscent of the Patronus. That builds into a kelpie.

On a mug, Newt holds a wand with the whispy glow that travels around the mug and, again, turns into a kelpie. It’s almost like the merchandise is telling us that a kelpie is Newt’s Patronus and it’s going to come up in The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The kelpie is a shape-shifting creature that doesn’t like humans. Go near it and you’ll be eaten and Newt says that the worlds largest is in Scotland’s Loch Ness.

Why a kelpie? It’s possibly linked to the shape-shifting elements or even that brilliant way of protecting itself. The kelpie in the Loch Ness is said to transform into an otter when people are around and then back into the sea serpent when it’s safe to do so.

Why would know this be a spoiler?

Rowling won’t tell fans what Newt’s Patronus is because it’s a spoiler. Why? Why would knowing the animal to be a spoiler?

It’s more than knowing, what it is means she’s thought about it–she’s had to think about it. There’s a high chance that Newt needs to call on his Patronus at some point. Considering he’s dealing with Grindelwald for Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts that shouldn’t be too surprising, but it is spoilery.
