Henry Cavill’s Shazam! cameo details emerge as the actor shares cryptic response to rumors
We now know what Henry Cavill’s cameo in Shazam! would have looked like. But we don’t know if the actor is still the DCEU’s Superman.
When it comes to the DC Extended Universe and their slate of superheroes (and villains), there seems to be a lot of unknowns. We don’t know if Ben Affleck is still Batman, and now we don’t know if Henry Cavill is still our Superman.
What we do know is what Cavill’s cameo would have looked like in Shazam!, the movie that seems to have ignited the firestorm of rumors surrounding the fate of the DCEU Superman. According to CBR.com, Superman/Clark Kent was supposed to have a meeting with Billy Batson (the young boy who turns into Shazam when he says the magic word). When they meet, the founding member of the Justice League will tell the boy something along the lines of, “Hey, we’re gonna keep an eye on you.”
Of course, the cameo was scrapped after negotiations fell through. However, it was this scrapped cameo that led to the rush of rumors that Henry Cavill was out as Superman. The problem is that no one from either side, the actor or Warner Bros., have actually confirmed this.
On Instagram, Henry Cavill shared a short video of himself wearing a shirt that says, “Krypton Lifting Team.” The actor doesn’t say anything in the video, but there is “The Blue Danube Waltz” with dogs barking in the background, as he slowly lifts a Superman action figure into view. And in the caption for the post, all Cavill writes is “Today was exciting #Superman.”
In the comments section of the video, confusion reigned supreme as fans all asked what did it mean. While speculation on social media has been running rampant since the rumors first broke, it is clear in his Instagram post that fans really are torn over what the future holds for the DCEU and its Superman.
But it was not just Henry Cavill contributing to the confusion, as even the studio seemed to only offer up a vague response to the reports of him being out. In a message posted by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. only said, “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally, we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films.”
At this point, all we know is that Shazam! was originally supposed to feature a cameo by Henry Cavill’s Superman. But thanks to scheduling conflicts, that cameo has now been scrapped.
While there is no concrete proof that Cavill is out and the DCEU is looking for a new Man of Steel, the rumor mill certainly seems to suggest we will be getting someone new donning the cape. Or perhaps the video posted by the actor was his way of saying that he is still Superman and there is no need for him to say anything.
For now, we have hope that Henry Cavill is still Superman and will show up in future DCEU movies. Hopefully the rumors of the actor being out are just that: rumors.
