Game of Thrones fan theory: Jaime and Jon could have a special connection

Game of Thrones season 8 will feature characters meeting for the first time. However, one fan theory suggests that one old connection may be important, too.

With so much time on their hands, Game of Thrones fans have pored through old seasons, looking for anything remotely resembling a clue as to what season 8 could hold. One of the latest ideas comes via u/EaudeAgnes on r/freefolk, and it concerns the connections between Jon Snow and Jaime Lannister.

Ultimately, the theory boils down to Jaime “[feeling] compelled to protect [Jon] and sort of die for him,” assuming that the truth of Jon’s parentage becomes more like public knowledge. They point to the idea that Jaime may feel some lingering guilt over what happened to the children of Rhaegar Targaryen while Jaime was serving as a member of the Kingsguard. “Im not expecting a full dialogue between them but just some aknowledgment of where they’re now and some sort of justice/guilt feeling from Jaime’s side [sic],” the post concludes.

It’s impossible to predict who interacts with whom, but u/EaudeAgnes has certainly put together some compelling evidence to show that the stories of Jaime and Jon aren’t really all that different. If there’s anyone who might possibly understand some of the things Jon is going through, it’s probably Jaime.

Warning: Spoiler discussion follows.

If you’ve kept up with the Game of Thrones season 8 spoiler discussion, you may have heard a rumor that Jaime won’t survive the season. At the time, yours truly suspected that he may be protecting the Stark sisters, but protecting the last child of Rhaegar’s blood may very well be an even more compelling motivation for Jaime. Granted, it all hinges on Bran Stark and Sam Tarly making Jon’s parentage public knowledge, and that’s a pretty big hinge to have when it comes to theories like this.

Next. 3 big questions we have after that Game of Thrones sneak peek. dark

Either way, we’re with u/EaudeAgnes on the idea that this might not have a huge impact on the entire season so much as serve as a good character moment. But any season of television that wants to earn those Emmys (and that critical acclaim) can’t just be all action. Here’s hoping those kinds of moments extend to both Jaime and Jon.
