2018: The Sinner
The year isn’t done yet, but 2018 has had a lot of frontrunners. One underdog that is getting a lot of attention over on the USA network is The Sinner. The show, whose first season starred Bill Pullman and Jessica Biel, is about Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) who is investigating why a young mother named Cora Tannetti (Biel) fatally stabbed a man on the beach. She has no memory of why she committed the crime, so Ambrose delves into her troubled past to figure out what makes her tick.
The first season of the series received two Golden Globe nominations, Best Miniseries and Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for Jessica Biel, who also got an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Biel’s performance was praised by critics in the first season, and the show has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show’s second season, however, currently holds a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even without Biel returning for season two, the show is still winning rave reviews. The new episodes exceeded expectations set by the critically lauded first season, and it will definitely continue to thrive if the show goes on for more seasons. While the ratings haven’t been as strong as the first season, that doesn’t mean it’s over for The Sinner!
