2015: Fargo
Fargo is a black comedy anthology series on FX, which is based in the 1996 film Fargo by the Coen brothers. Each season takes place in a different era, with a whole new story and mostly new characters and cast, but there is always a slight overlap. The first season takes place in Minnesota in 2006, while the second season takes place in Fargo, North Dakota in 1979. The third season takes place in 2010 , and the fourth season is set to take place in Kansas City in the 1950s.
The show has received a lot of acclaim since it premiered in 2014. The first season was met with critical acclaim and received an 85% on Metacritic, and a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season fared even better, receiving a 100% “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show has also received six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited Series in 2014, and a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film in 2015.
Season four of the anthology series is set to star Chris Rock, who will play the leader of a crime group of black migrants who are fleeting the Jim Crow South. It will be set in the 1950s in Kansas City, Missouri, a drastic change from season 3, which was set in 2010. Production of the new season is only slated to begin in late 2019, so fans of Fargo will need to wait a bit!
