2004: Desperate Housewives

The ladies of Wisteria Lane took TV by storm back in 2004, with plenty of sex, drama, and mysteries to keep us interested. Desperate Housewives followed the lives of a group of women seen through the eyes of their late neighbor, who committed suicide in the pilot episode. Over the years, the women struggle with family life and relationships, all while hiding crimes and dark secrets to keep up the facade of their seemingly perfect suburban life.

Desperate Housewives was definitely popular when it hit the air on ABC. Its premiere in 2004 was the network’s most popular debut at the time, and over its run, it won multiple awards, including Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. The first five seasons of the series were rated in the top ten most-watched series, and in 2008, it was supposedly the most popular show in its demographic around the world.

The show came to an end after eight seasons in 2012. By the time Desperate Housewives concluded, it had the honor of being named the longest running hour-long television series that featured an all-female lead cast, beating out Charmed by only two episodes. By 2012, it was also the most-watched comedy series around the world, holding this position since 2006.
