1993: Home Improvement

Home Improvement was a sitcom on ABC that aired from 1991 until 1999. The show was based on the stand-up comedy of Tim Allen, and starred the comedian as Tim Taylor, who loves cars and power tools, and hosts the home improvement show Tool Time with his friend and assistant Al. The show also follows the rest of the Taylor family, Tim’s wife Jill, and his three sons Brad, Randy, and Mark.

Home Improvement was an instant hit and helped launch acting careers for Tim Allen, and Pamela Anderson, who appeared as the Tool Girl on Tool Time. The hit ABC sitcom was one of the top 10 best-rated shows from its first season up until it ended in 1999. The show went to the top spot in the ratings in 1993, and that was a big year for Allen. Not one was his TV show #1, but he also released a #1 bestselling book, Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man, and movie, The Santa Clause.

The show was nominated for a handful of awards over its 8-year run, and Allen won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
