Pier 13 (Captain America: The First Avenger)

Our very own Brooklyn boy! If you live in Brooklyn (as this writer does), you probably have a soft spot for Captain America and his best friend, Bucky Barnes. These two Brooklyn boys are incredible. And it’s even better to see them running around the city or making references to landmarks.

In Captain Amerca: The First Avenger, Steve is given the serum to make him Captain America and, instantly, the man who believed in him is shot and killed by Hydra. Trying to make sure Hydra doesn’t get the serum, Steve runs throughout Brooklyn to try and stop the agent.

Pier 13 in Brooklyn may look real in the movie, but it was actually filmed elsewhere — in New Jersey! That being said, you can go to the pier that Steve runs down to see where he was transformed into the Captain America we know and love.

Still, it’d be nice to see some of the adventures between Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers throughout Brooklyn. Did those boys live in Williamsburg before it was hipster central? Or what if Steve and Bucky went back to Brooklyn after everything was said and done? Even if they don’t, at least we can recreate Steve Rogers barefoot running through Brooklyn.

Okay or maybe let’s not do that. (It helps that the actual pier is in Hoboken though, lots to see there!)

What you can do:

  • Visit the amazing restaurants on the water!
  • Take a look at the original Cake Boss store.
  • Get a beautiful view of the city while along the water.

Location: 1301 Sinatra Dr. N, Hoboken, NJ

How to get there: You’ll have to take the New Jersey transit to Hoboken, either the train or bus line over there. If you have a car, it’ll be easier just to drive.

Cost: Free!
