Richard E. Grant may be joining Star Wars but his future isn’t blue

When the casting announcement for Richard E. Grant hit Twitter, many fans thought they’d figured out his role. Unfortunately, he won’t be Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Richard E. Grant took to Twitter recently to share the news that dreams really do come true. The famed actor would finally be a part of the Star Wars universe and, with rumors that Thrawn would play a part in the standalone film for Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans were eager to make a connection.

Unfortunately, we were all wrong. In an interview for RadioTimes, the actor made it very clear that he would not be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn but that he could not talk about what character he was playing in the film either.

“I’m not playing the Star Wars character you just mentioned,” Grant stated and now the possibilities for his role in the upcoming film could be endless. It seemed so fitting, when Grant himself fueled theories he’d play Thrawn by liking a photo of himself compared to the character.

So now that he’s not taking on Thrawn (unless Grant and LucasFilm caught wind of everyone figuring it out and are trying to lie), who is he taking on? A villain we’ve yet to meet? The Star Wars canon is so vast that there are endless choices for Grant but it is upsetting.

For years, we’ve wanted a young Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone with Ewan McGregor leading the charge. As the years have gone on, it looked less and less possible. As of this year, our hopes were renewed especially with Thrawn since he is, primarily, a Kenobi villain. All that being said, we may still see Ewan McGregor wear his Jedi robes once again. It just won’t be with Richard E. Grant’s Thrawn in the picture.

Did Mark Hamill insinuate that Mara Jade could be part of the Star Wars movies?. dark. Next
