Life on Mars
Another show that suffered the curse of cancellation, Life of Mars’ ending was sad because we were forced to believe that everything we loved about the show was a lie. Waking up from a dream while on a space station? Really? That’s your explanation?
The show was a British transplant into the American culture and had its struggles. When Sam Tyler is hit by a car in modern times, he is taken back in time to work as a detective and solve crimes in the 1970s.
Throughout the show, he’s meant to solve the capture of his girlfriend in modern times while dealing with the change in police work in the 1970s. The obvious ending to the show would be that he is in a coma, wakes up, and is reunited with his girlfriend, right?
Well, no. The show ends by showing him literally in space. You know, taking the name a little too literally when it could have just wrapped it up in a nice little bow and given us what we wanted. Just another show that is sad because of what happened to a great piece of television, Life on Mars could have been so much more than what we were given.
