Buckingham Palace is hiring full-time help for Queen Elizabeth: Reside with royalty
Queen Elizabeth of England is hiring a new full-time staff member, and the lucky employee will live in Buckingham Palace.
So Meghan Markle snagged Prince Harry, but that doesn’t mean all hope is lost when it comes to rubbing tweed elbows with royalty. Buckingham Palace is hiring help for Queen Elizabeth, and the full-time staff position includes residing in the royal palace.
If you are envisioning that becoming a member of the royal dream team means nightly dinners with Kate Middleton, Prince William, Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry, your imagination may outdo the reality. This beloved quartet lives in Kensington Palace rather than Buckingham Palace. However, the Queen is known to be close to all four, so it’s possible that you really could exchange smiles and even an occasional conversation with one or more of the group.
Are you the ideal candidate to assist Queen Elizabeth?
Do you think you have what it takes to become a royal staffer? Well, it takes more than the ability to brew a proper cuppa tea. This job opportunity is described in detail on the palace’s website. (This job is for Brits and UK-permitted workers only. Sorry, everyone else.)
To apply for the role of Kitchen Porter, you need to be a team player who is committed to achieving “exceptional results.” You’ll work Monday through Sunday in this full-time job.
If you’re considering applying, the Palace wants you to recognize that working for the Royal Household means “joining a professional team who deliver extraordinary service. This is what makes working for the Royal Household so different.”
Your royal mission, if you choose to accept it
As a member of the Master of the Household’s Office in the catering branch, you’ll work with the kitchen team to:
- prepare and serve food to the very highest standards.
- maintain the kitchen and clear-up areas
- ensure all kitchens, whether in Buckingham Palace or other locations, are “presented to the same exceptional standard.”
Don’t sweat if you don’t have experience. You will be trained. However, applicants need to be eager to “get involved, use initiative and work with your colleagues to achieve a smooth daily service.”
Bonus applicant points and position benefits
You get bonus points on your application if you understand food safety and hygiene. But more than that, the Palace is seeking someone who is “keen to develop your skills and gain experience in an exceptional catering environment.”
Oh, and the benefits will make you chuffed. You’ll enjoy 33 holidays, a 15 percent employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility), training, and numerous other employee benefits.
Because you live on-site in jolly London, you will enjoy subsidized housing and all of your meals. The closing date to apply is Aug. 24. So if you meet all of the qualifications, don’t dawdle. You can get more information about applying here.
