Zooey Deschanel

This one probably won’t be that shocking for most people, but Zooey Deschanel has been in a musical duo ever since 2006.

Zooey started exploring her musical interests around the same time she started to break out on the Hollywood scene back in 2001. Along with actress Samantha Shelton, the two started a jazz cabaret act that performed around Los Angeles. But it wasn’t until Zooey met Matt Ward on the set of the film The Go-Getter that her music career really took off.

The two recorded a song for the film’s end credits, and the rest is history. Since that chance encounter, the duo — known as She & Him — have released six studio albums, including their debut album Volume One in 2008 as well as two Christmas albums and a cover album of classics, titled Classics.

Zooey is also a Grammy nominee. Her song “So Long” was featured in the film Winnie The Pooh in 2011 and got nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Unfortunately, it lost out to “I See The Light” from Tangled. Pretty stiff competition, but definitely still an honor to be nominated.

Besides her projects with She & Him, Zooey has also performed in a number of her film projects. Her voice can be found on the soundtracks for films like The New Guy, Elf, Yes Man, (500) Days of Summer, and Bridge To Terabithia. Zoey also wrote and performed the theme song for her Fox TV show New Girl and performed the song “Fallinlove2nite” on a season three episode, with none other than Prince.
