Evangeline Lilly wants an all-female Avengers movie, not a Wasp solo film
By Mia Johnson
At Boston Comic Con, Evangeline Lilly revealed a solo Wasp film isn’t necessarily what she wants. An all-female Avengers team, though, is something she’s totally for.
After seeing the Wasp kick butt in Ant-Man and the Wasp, there’s no doubt that audiences want to see more of her. How we’ll be seeing more of her, though, is the question at large. Paul Rudd said he didn’t necessarily know the fate of Ant-Man 3. And we might see the Wasp in Avengers 4, but you can only get so much screen time in a movie like that.
So why not have the Wasp star in her own solo film? It’d be the perfect opportunity for Hope van Dyne to shine, and we wouldn’t have to deal with Scott Lang interfering with Hope and her father’s experiments. (Sorry, Scott but it’s true).
While that all seems like an excellent plan, it might not be likely to happen, because Evangeline Lilly doesn’t quite want a Wasp solo film without Ant-Man. During a panel at Boston Comic Con, a fan asked Lilly what she thought about getting her own movie. Even though you’d think she’d have to be crazy to turn down a solo movie, she makes a good point:
"I like the MCU and I’d like to stay. But I actually don’t like the idea of a Wasp standalone film, because Ant-Man and Wasp (since the very beginning in the comic books) were always a team. And really, they’re kind of one of the only proper and true teams in the MCU. Otherwise, it’s mostly a lot of individuals. And I love the team aspect of it; I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. For me, it’s the most fun part of the film."
As annoying as Scott might be sometimes when it comes to hero things, he and the Wasp really do make a good team. And there’s no point in changing or breaking up something if it already works fine as is. Although, Lilly concluded her answer by adding one little caveat to that:
"I don’t love the idea of breaking them up… except if there was an all-female Avengers film. Then I’m in."
Given that we pretty much have a full line-up of worthy heroes for an all-female Avengers movie, the time has never been better than now. In addition to the Wasp, we’ve got Captain Marvel, Gamora, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Valkyrie, and so many others to choose from. (There’s even a fanmade poster that’s got us excited for this movie to happen.)
So it might be a bummer that we won’t get a solo movie with the Wasp. But as long as she’s down to appear in Ant-Man 3 or that highly requested all-female Avengers movie, we know she’ll be back soon.
