3. Alice Isn’t Dead

Welcome to Night Vale is a well-known podcast phenomenon all on its own. In fact, it’s so well known that it doesn’t really need referencing here. However, it is worth mentioning the other, somewhat related podcasts that are coming out of Night Vale Presents. That’s the podcasting network managed by Night Vale creators Jeffrey Cranor and Joseph Fink.

Some of the Night Vale Presents stuff may or may not be up your particular horror fan alley. I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats is about the band, the Mountain Goats. Another, Sleep With Me, is actually a rather innocuous collection of soothing stories to help you sleep. There’s even a Chuck Tingle podcast for the bravest amongst you.

Now, this isn’t to say that the non-horror podcasts aren’t good; in fact, quite a few of them have received good reviews and are generally interesting, boundary-pushing works of art. Still, we’re here for the horror.

Good thing we’ve got Alice Isn’t Dead. The show is based on the fictional audio diaries of a trucker as she drives throughout the United States. She isn’t any trucker, though. The unnamed narrator is searching for Alice, her supposedly dead wife who seems to have been embroiled in a mystery.

This isn’t just any mystery. There are menacing, quasi-demonic beings, towns that seem set apart from time, and at least a few deeply creepy billboards. Plus, it soon becomes clear that Alice herself may not be as dead as originally imagined. It’s all narrated by Jasika Nicole, who came to podcasting renown as Intern Dana on Welcome to Night Vale.
