DCEU: Why is Ray Fisher saying he isn’t quitting Cyborg now?
Although it’s really not a day without some sort of news from the DCEU, few expected that today’s big bit would come from Ray Fisher.
The DCEU has not contented itself with reports of a Supergirl movie now in the works over at Warner Bros. Now, out of seemingly nowhere, the man behind Cyborg, Ray Fisher, has tweeted out a message claiming that no, he’s not quitting.
Wait, what?
A quick search seems to show that there were reports floating around that Fisher could be heading for an early exit from the film universe back at the start of June. Revenge of the Nerds seems to have originated the reports, putting together bits and pieces from around the DC rumor mills.
But since then, things have quieted down. It doesn’t seem like it’s really “recent” at all, yet Fisher’s tweet seems to suggest that he’s heard or seen something lately to prompt this response. Check it out below:
Now, to be fair, as the MovieWeb and Revenge of the Nerds posts linked above note, there haven’t been many rumblings about Fisher getting more work as Victor Stone. That’s continued now into August. Additionally, films like Birds of Prey and now Supergirl seem to be getting all of the attention, leaving earlier-announced titles behind. Besides that, there’s also a movie with an actual release date getting a lot of promotion right now: Aquaman, which released its first trailer less than a month ago.
What could have prompted it, although this is speculation just based on the close timing, is an article over on io9 that claims DC could and should do better with Cyborg as a character. However, it doesn’t even mention the rumors themselves so much as point out the disconnect between what DC says it wants to do with Cyborg and what it’s actually doing.
Although these things all seem related, Fisher hasn’t followed his tweet up with any other statements. Culturess will let you know if he does.
