Avengers 4: Evangeline Lilly has the perfect ending

If Avengers 4 doesn’t end the way Evangeline Lilly theorizes, it feels like a missed opportunity for something particularly cool to happen.

Avengers 4 details are so light on the ground that even a fairly obvious joke seems like it could mean something, even if that something is just wishful thinking on the part of Evangeline Lilly. Still on the press tour for Ant-Man and the Wasp, she gave an interview to PopBuzz over in the UK, found here in the States by SyFy Wire. Naturally, the topic of Avengers 4 came up, and Lilly “revealed the ending.” (We wish! SyFy Wire is right in calling it “so cathartic and gruesome.”)

It’s best to listen to Lilly herself describe it, but for those who don’t have headphones handy, here’s her plan: have the Wasp shrink down and effectively blow a hole in Thanos’ brain to end him once and for all. She doesn’t make any mention of help from Ant-Man, but given Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s spoiler-filled post-credits scene, that makes a lot of sense; he might have … other things to do.

However, her plan could honestly work. It’s out of the box, and, much like the failed plan to go so hard at Thanos to give Mantis time to soothe him and take his gauntlet off, it plays to the strengths of the characters. Wasp is particularly good at using her technology. (There’s also a grosser way that this could happen: Hope could pull an Athena and just go back to regular size while still in Thanos’ brain. That’s probably a little too vicious for Marvel, though.)

Of course, with so few Avengers left, it’s going to be hard to get everyone back together in the first place. Maybe Valkyrie could show up and help out, at least. Then we’d get more of the female Avengers film Lilly (and we) want, too.

We’ll just have to see how Avengers 4 plays out next year.
