5 best (and terrifying) moments from the Venom trailer

The latest Venom trailer shows what happens when Eddie Brock is taken over by his symbiote alter-ego, Venom. It’s terrifying, but admittedly pretty awesome.

Finally, Venom has given us a trailer filled with what we actually want to see: Venom! After a few trailers focusing on Tom Hardy (and trying to convince us that he’s a good Eddie Brock), we finally got a trailer where we really see what happens when the symbiote takes over his body. And with that, there were a ton of great clips that teased what’s to come in the movie.

If you haven’t seen the trailer, watch it here first:

And without further ado, here these are the absolute best moments from the trailer:

Motorcycle Venom

Now that we’ve gotten a lot more Venom in this trailer, we can actually see what its capable of when the symbiote takes over Eddie Brock. Of course, that means kicking lots of butt — but in ways that no ordinary human can do. Because of this, the two get to do a weird tag-team style of fighting. Take, for example, the scene where Eddie’s driving on a motorcycle while Venom completely takes out the guys in the cars pursuing them. Hopefully, this movie will have a lot more awesome moments where it’s them against the world.

Convenience store Venom

This little kicker at the end of the trailer was absolutely hilarious yet still terrifying. While in the convenience store, Venom recites the poetry of monsters:  “We will eat both your arms and then both of your legs and then we will eat your face right off your head. You will be this armless, legless, faceless thing, won’t you? Going down the street like a turd in the wind.” If that doesn’t have a nice ring to it for a terrifying anti-hero/villain, we don’t know what does. We just feel sorry for the terrified shopkeeper who had to witness that whole situation, with Eddie Brock acting as if nothing happened.

The face lick

Eating people’s faces off, fine. But licking people on their face? That’s just gross, Venom. This shows he really does have the whole intimidating monster thing down pat. We have a feeling there will be a lot of moments throughout the movie where Venom is just plain odd, unsettling, and horrifying. The face lick is hopefully just one of many gross (yet awesome) moments.

Venom vs. ???

Toward the end of the trailer, we see a Venom-looking being, but that’s not Venom. This symbiote-infused alter ego has a grayer color, and we later see him go head-to-head with Venom. The person behind it? Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Carlton Drake, who seems to have a soft spot for injecting humans with symbiote; it looks like he’ll be doing the same to himself. In the trailer’s comments, fans are torn behind this being’s identity. Some think it could be Riot, while others think it might be Anti-Venom. Carnage’s name even got thrown into the ring, but his typical red color doesn’t match what we see in the trailer.

“We are Venom”

If there was no better way to seal the deal between Eddie Brock and his new identity, it’s the phrase “We are Venom.” It reminds us of “We are Groot,” except this one isn’t as heartwarming. As we’ve mentioned before, it’s just downright terrifying — something to put a chill down your spine. And even though you can see Eddie Brock when they make this reveal, something tells us Eddie isn’t 100 percent in agreement with this whole “we are Venom thing.” It’s more like, “we’re Venom, but I’m honestly just along for the ride against my will.”
