October can’t come soon enough for us to be reunited with our favorite Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. So here’s 10 shows to add to your watchlist in the meantime.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has always known how to end a season with a bang, but the season 3 finale cliffhanger has us counting down the days until we’ll know the fate of Rebecca Bunch.
During this season, we watched Rebecca climb her way out of rock bottom after Josh left her at the altar in the season 2 finale, and began treatment for her newly diagnosed mental illness. She was finally getting back in control of her life, making better choices and having healthy relationships, until her crazy ex-boyfriend, Trent came back into town.
In a great parallel to season 1 Rebecca, Trent is shown as an unhinged boy in love who will do anything to get Rebecca. We watch him recreate many of the scenarios, and even reprise a few of the songs, from Rebecca’s pursuit of Josh in earlier seasons. It all seems a little crazy (but harmless enough) until Trent’s plan to murder Rebecca’s current love interest, Nathaniel, is revealed.
Rebecca once again is back in a familiar chaotic scenario, this time trying to save Nathaniel from being killed by Trent. And no one believing her that Nathaniel is in danger. Based on previous seasons, we’d expect Rebecca to save Nathaniel by some morally questionable and likely illegal Rebecca hijinks, and then get away with her questionable behavior. Instead, we watched Rebecca push Trent off a roof, get charged with attempted second-degree murder, and plead guilty at her trial.
Now the question is how the show’s fourth and final season will handle a prison-bound Rebecca who’s accepting the consequences of her actions for the first time ever.
The show’s creator and star, Rachel Bloom, did give a few hints of what’s to come at San Diego Comic-Con but we’ll still have to wait until October and the final season’s premiere for any answers.
However, to make the wait more bearable, we’ve compiled a list of similar binge-worthy shows to add to your watchlist.
