Fantastic Beasts: Will Leta Lestrange be responsible for Newt’s Explusion?

Newt Scamanders expulsion from Hogwarts may be explained in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and it could be Leta Lestrange who is wholly responsible for it.

How Newt was expelled from Hogwarts is shrouded in mystery. There is no doubt that he was expelled, but the details are somewhat vague and they differ depending on who you talk to. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald may shed light on this matter and in doing so, point the finger at Leta Lestrange.

Comic-Con unveiled a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and in that trailer, there was a lot to talk about.

More from Harry Potter

Connections to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone where picked up, as were connections to the Deathly Hallows. Dumbledore looking into the Mirror of Erised has been another huge talking point along with a few other bits and bobs.

One discussion that we have already had is if the trailer gave us a hint at Newt’s expulsion from Hogwarts.

The idea is that the scene of Newt taking on a Boggart will transpire to be when he endangered the lives of others and ultimately ended up being expelled.

So where does Leta Lestrange fit in?

Well from the Fantastic Beasts trailer, it looks like Leta is in the classroom with Newt as he about to face the Boggart. In fact, it looks like she is at the front of the line, just behind Newt.

So the idea is, if the events of Newt’s explusion are here, Leta is probably the life that was put in danger.

Now it has already been laid out that the incident is not entirely Newt’s fault and that Professor Dumbledore is more to blame than anyone else. This is why Newt was allowed to keep his wand unlike Hagrid, who had it destroyed after being expelled himself.

Because of this strange reluctance to fully expel him makes it sound like the school was forced to do so. As if a family member of a Hogwarts student had some influence. Like what Draco did with his father in Harry Potter.

This is where it all circles back to Leta, she carries the Lestrange name. A power and influencial family who may have put pressure on the school to expel Newt after he put their daughter in harm’s way. So, to comprise, the school, or more likely Professor Dumbledore, convinced them to expel Newt but nor remove his wand.
