Here is why Dumbledore teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts is weird
Dumbledore always taught Transfiguration at Hogwarts so when he is suddenly teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts in Fantastic Beasts, fans were obviously concerned.
When fans saw that Dumbledore was teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts in the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, obviously, there was a concern. The famed headmaster of Hogwarts taught Transfiguration and that was fun.
Why? Well, because it meant that he wasn’t in the right position. Dumbledore eventually got that position cursed because he wouldn’t give the job to Tom Riddle but prior, it meant that there were professors who stayed on as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for some time.
One of those now is apparently Dumbledore which isn’t really that great since it isn’t part of the original canon. Whatever the reasoning for this switch, we’ll have to wait and see when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
There is a lot about this movie that seems a bit grossly unnecessary. This change, at this point, didn’t need to happen. Surely we’ll find out why it happened and learn more about Dumbledore but at this point, it just seems very odd.
What’s next? Is his full name not going to be Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore? It is a lot to unpack and maybe it is because we’re just all so attached to the series but it almost hurts to see something like this happen. Albus Dumbledore deserves better than having his career just changed for whatever reason.
Again, we’ll have to wait and see when the movie comes out.
