A very familiar face featured in the Comic-Con Fantastic Beasts trailer. A man named Nicholas Flamel, but who is Nicholas Flamel?
Who is Nicholas Flamel? Who is this familiar face that everybody is talking about? Not everyone is a diehard Potterhead who knows all of the Wizarding World characters like the back of their hand. So for those of you who do not know who Nicholas Flamel is, these are legitimate questions that need answers, so let’s look at who Nicholas Flamel else and why he is so familiar.
The first thing is, Nicholas Flamel is not actually a familiar face. We have never actually seen him before until the Comic-Con Fantastic Beasts trailer was released. Before that he had only ever been mentioned in the Harry Potter books, never seen.

We were first introduced to him in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. A famed alchemist and friend of Professor Dumbledore, he is the only known person in the world to posses the Sorcerer’s Stone; a magical object that can turn object into gold and grant everlasting life.
Yes that does mean that he is immortal, kind of. He needs to always drink the potion made form the stone, but as long as he does that he is immortal. When we were first introduced to him in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, he had just celebrated 665th birthday.

We never met him after the Harry Potter book however because of Lord Voldemort. After Voledmort’s failed attempt at securing the stone in order to return to full power, Professor Dumbledore convinced Flamel to destroy the stone. This meant that Flamels death followed shortly.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which is set before Harry Potter, gives us the opportunity to meet him. We got our first glimpses of him at the end of the trailer with Jacob confusing him for a ghost; a fare assumption considering how pale he is.
Why the Fantastic Beasts series has chosen to introduce him is interesting and also unclear, for now anyway. Connections between Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter are known and it will be interesting to see why this connection has been made.
