Aquaman will have a sea dragon, and we hope Jason Momoa gets to ride it

Aquaman is set to be an epic, globe-trotting adventure that crosses land and sea. And now we know… there will be an epic sea dragon.

Forget the seahorse of comic history, in Aquaman’s upcoming solo movie he has a sea dragon!

While we know that sea dragons are going to be a part of the movie thanks to Entertainment Weekly, what we don’t know yet is if Arthur Curry/Aquaman is actually going to get the chance to ride on one.

Previously, we discussed which of the seven kingdoms might be important in Aquaman. This included the fact that one of those kingdoms, Xebel, has been a part of the comics since the beginning. With the reveal of the sea dragons, we know the kingdom of Xebel will definitely play a big role in the movie. Considering Mera, played by Amber Heard, is actually one of the Xebel warriors, that makes sense.

The sea dragons are apparently ridden only by the people of Xebel. In EW‘s preview, we see a sea dragon perched on a rock with a rider on his back. Now who that rider is, we can’t tell yet.

Comic book fans may remember that Aquaman was known for riding a seahorse. From the looks of the film, he may have something much more impressive to ride.

According to producer Peter Safran, they wanted to take the idea that Aquaman is known for riding a seahorse and turn it into something much bigger. Rather than go with what he was known for (the seahorse steed), Safran said they decided to “take something for which he was mocked and turn it into something terrifying and impressive.”

The producer also pointed out that the sea dragons are from Xebel, and are ridden by the Xebellian people, but “I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Arthur (Jason Momoa) on one at some point.”

We don’t know about you, but we think that this is quite a teaser.

Considering sea dragons are described as both fast and strong, befitting of their dragon nature, we can totally understand why Arthur Curry might want to ride on one of them.
