“Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” (Sabra & Neil, season 3) – Jazz

Choreographer: Mandy Moore

Props can either be a huge success or the kiss of death for a dance routine. Luckily for us, this one absolutely hit it out of the park!

Described as an “80s jazz power lunch” by choreographer Mandy Moore (no, not that one), Neil and Sabra are two sexy, stubborn business people fighting to get their way in a business meeting. The two duel it out across, on top of, and underneath the table as Annie Lennox’s voice singing “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” plays in the background. One of the best moves is when Sabra is laying on the table, and Neil lifts himself over her, showing an insane amount of upper-body strength.

The two dancers punch the table and throw themselves around to the beat before pirouetting around the stage and finally coming to a deal. Imagine all business meetings were like this one. The pair completely threw themselves into this routine and made us believe the passion between them.

It’s routines like this one that remind us just how amazing the first few seasons were. The dancing was so strong, and the contestants were so memorable. It’s no wonder that Sabra ended up winning this season, and Neil now has a career on Broadway (even appearing in the ensemble of Hamilton).

Choreographer Mandy Moore has done great things for herself too. Not only was the table routine nominated for an Emmy that year, she went on to get five more Emmy nominations over the years, and choreographed the critically-acclaimed movie-musical La La Land in 2016. Not too shabby!
