Last week’s episode of AMC’s Preacher left off with Gran’ma telling Jesse to push her to see how far she’ll go.

Tensions seem just as high in the second episode of Preacher. In the preview from AMC, Jesse and Cassidy stand around Tulip who, though seated on the bed and clad in what appears to be a nightgown, seems no worse for wear after coming back from Purgatory.

The friendship between preacher and vampire is visibly fraying. We see that getting Tulip back isn’t going to change how Cassidy feels. As far as he’s concerned Jesse crossed a line back in New Orleans by letting Tulip die.

The clip shows Cassidy goading Jesse at every turn. Tulip has told him about the Grail, which strikes another nerve, given that Jesse was working with them. When Cassidy calls them Jesse’s “friends,” things heat up. It’s the equivalent of salt in the wound of Jesse’s guilt.

Tulip catches on quickly. She is still in the dark about Cassidy’s admittance of them sleeping together, but the hostility in the room is tangible.

What does this mean, then? It’s still too early in the season to truly tell. The dynamic between them has certainly changed, but it isn’t irrevocable at this point. Yet.
