Inside Llweyn Davis (Oscar Isaac)

Oscar Isaac should have been nominated for his work in Inside Llewyn Davis. Playing a “washed up” musician, the movie shows the struggle of one artist who has the ability and the songs to help make the world clearer.

It is an incredible look at the struggle artists face continually and, in true Cohen brothers fashion, it is dark and funny and Llewyn Davis travels around New York City in the dead of winter in a too thin coat and carrying around an orange cat.

It is one of those movies that really hits home for everyone, whether you are an artist or just someone who has struggled with grasping the ideas of their dreams. This movie really nails how it can feel to be so close to what you want and not make it.

There is also a storyline where Llewyn’s writing partner killed himself and, through that, you learn a lot about how Llewyn deals with grief. Honestly, the ending might be the most upsetting part of the entire movie because it shows a very famous musician taking the stage after Llewyn, insinuating that Llewyn doesn’t make it but, instead, Bob Dylan gets the fame that Llewyn deserves.
